When to Pop the Balloon: Early Warning Signs to Watch for in the First Three Dates
The first three dates are not a contract. They are an introduction.
You do not need to prove that someone is a terrible person before deciding they are not right for you. If an early interaction reveals a clear mismatch, you are allowed to pop the balloon and move on.
On date one: notice how they treat boundaries
Do they respect your pace, your time, your privacy, and your “no”? Someone who pushes past a small boundary is giving you useful information early.
Also watch how they treat people who cannot offer them anything: servers, drivers, staff, and strangers. Charm directed only at you is a performance. Character usually shows up when there is nothing to gain.
On date two: listen for consistency
Does their story match what they told you before? Do their actions match their stated intentions? A person can have a busy life without making you guess where you stand.
